Warsaw, Poland
Concrete Phoenix Rising
"Beautifully rebuilt, charmingly brutal"
Official Coat of Arms
A phoenix rising from rubble, clutching a concrete block in one talon and a pierogi in the other, crowned with the Palace of Culture and Science. The shield is supported by two construction cranes, eternal guardians of the city's perpetual rebuilding.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Visited Warsaw expecting medieval charm but got Soviet-era concrete blocks mixed with shiny shopping centres. The Old Town is gorgeous but feels like a movie set (because it basically is - rebuilt from scratch). Palace of Culture looms over everything like a communist middle finger. Food was amazing though!"— CastleFan_Prague

Twinned With
Brasília — Both cities prove that starting from scratch leads to lots of concrete and questionable urban planning decisions.
Supporting Evidence
Warsaw's Old Town is actually newer than most of the city's communist-era housing blocks, having been painstakingly reconstructed from 18th-century paintings after WWII.
