Coalville, United Kingdom

Coalville-Upon-Tesco

"Where heritage meets retail parks"

Official Coat of Arms

A shield divided quarterly: bearing a golden Tesco trolley rampant upon a field of tarmac, surmounted by three traffic cones proper and a coal wagon passant, all beneath a chief of perpetual roadworks orange.

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Visited Coalville expecting some charming mining heritage and got a masterclass in how to turn industrial history into a Tesco Extra. The town centre feels like it's permanently waiting for something to happen, but the Snibston Discovery Museum was actually quite good before it closed. At least the traffic lights work efficiently - you'll spend quality time getting to know them."

Milton-Keynes — Both places prove that when you build everything around cars and shopping, the cars and shopping somehow become the most interesting things there.

Supporting Evidence

Coalville was once home to the world's first passenger railway to run without government subsidy, though locals today might argue the bus service has gone too far in the opposite direction.
