Manchester, England

Perpetually Under Construction

"Where cranes outnumber trees"

Official Coat of Arms

The shield displays a golden crane rampant atop a field of orange traffic cones, flanked by two worker bees wearing hi-vis jackets. Above, a crown of grey clouds perpetually drizzles upon the Beetham Tower, whilst below, a scroll bears the motto 'Semper in Renovatione' (Always Under Renovation).

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Visited Manchester for a weekend break and spent most of it dodging roadworks around Piccadilly. The Northern Quarter was buzzing though, and I loved the curry mile until I realized I'd walked the same stretch three times due to all the diversions. Great music scene, shame about the weather turning my hair into a frizzy mess."

Enjoy the authentic Manchester soundtrack of pneumatic drills and reversing lorries. Walking distance to everything, though you may need to take several delightful detours around the charming roadworks.

Twinned With

A permanently scaffolded cathedral in Italy, because both understand the art of perpetual renovation

Supporting Evidence

Manchester has so many ongoing construction projects that the city council actually employs a 'Crane Coordinator' to prevent aerial collisions between construction equipment.
