"Lovely sandy beach and Ocean Beach Pleasure Park brought back childhood memories, but the wind coming off the North Sea nearly took my head off even in July. The Roman fort at Arbeia was genuinely fascinating and much better than expected. Had fish and chips on the front which were excellent, though I ate them at a 45-degree angle to avoid the gale.
