"Booked this because the brochure promised 'the English Riviera' and I pictured Monaco with better tea. Got Monaco's palm trees and Torbay's climate, which is to say I wore a raincoat over my swimwear and felt like Basil Fawlty was narrating my holiday. The harbour is genuinely lovely and the Agatha Christie connections are fun, but three days of drizzle in a town that sells itself on sunshine is a special kind of British irony.
