Barry Island, Wales
Soggy Gavin Central
"Come for the chips, stay because your car won't start"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield divided between a golden arcade token rampant and a seagull triumphant clutching a bag of chips, supported by two rusted fairground horses. The crest features a rain cloud persistent above three beach huts in various states of structural uncertainty.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Visited Barry Island expecting a tropical paradise based on the name. Found a Welsh seaside resort where the seagulls are more aggressive than bouncer and the arcade machines are older than my grandmother. The pleasure beach has exactly one working ride and three decades of peeling paint. Still had a brilliant time though - proper old-school seaside chaos."— ChipShopChampion from Swindon

Enjoy exclusive beachfront living with panoramic Bristol Channel views, complemented by abundant local dining experiences (chip shops) and vintage entertainment facilities (the arcade with three working machines). Perfect transport links to Cardiff mean you can escape... I mean, easily commute!
Twinned With
Blackpool — Both places prove that faded Victorian seaside glamour and stubborn optimism make the perfect British holiday combo.
Supporting Evidence
Barry Island was once the most popular seaside resort in Wales, welcoming over 2 million visitors annually in its 1930s heyday, though these days it's more famous for being the fictional home of Gavin & Stacey's Stacey Shipman.
