Abergavenny, Wales
Abergavenny Gateway Gridlock
"Where the A40 comes to die"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield divided per pale: on the dexter, a queue of motor cars statant in traffic upon a field of tarmac; on the sinister, the Sugar Loaf mountain proper rising above a market stall laden with artisanal cheeses. Crest: a roundabout encircled by the motto 'Gateway to Everywhere Else.'
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Lovely market town with proper Welsh character, though getting through it on the A40 added an unexpected hour to our Brecon Beacons trip. The castle ruins are genuinely impressive and the food festival buzz is real, but why does every route to anywhere scenic have to funnel through this one roundabout? Still, grabbed excellent cheese at the market and the mountain views from the town center are spectacular."— TrafficJamTraveller from Birmingham

Supporting Evidence
Abergavenny's annual Food Festival attracts over 30,000 visitors who all somehow have to squeeze through the same medieval street layout that was perfectly adequate for horse-drawn carts but slightly less ideal for modern traffic management.
