Bedfordshire, England

Perpetual Roadworks County

"We're somewhere between London and nowhere"

Official Coat of Arms

A shield divided quarterly featuring a golden traffic cone rampant on a field of tarmac, crossed A-road signs, a London commuter train disappearing into the distance, and a bed (naturally) surrounded by red-brick Victorian terraces that somehow cost £400,000.

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Visited Bedfordshire expecting countryside charm but spent most of my time in traffic jams on the A421. The highlight was a surprisingly decent roundabout near Bedford and some lovely brick houses that cost more than they should because they're vaguely commutable to London. The county seems to exist mainly as a place other people drive through to get somewhere more interesting."

Supporting Evidence

Bedfordshire is home to the UK's largest brick-making industry, which explains why every house looks exactly the same and costs a fortune despite being in the middle of nowhere.
