"Came for the Common Riding, stayed because my car wouldn't start on the A7 in the fog. The mill shops are genuinely excellent if you need a jumper for every possible weather event, which you will need here. Teviotdale Leisure Centre is lovely but the town itself shuts alarmingly early, so plan your evening around a chippy and an early night. Lovely rugby-mad locals though, and the riverside walk is a proper highlight."— Derek Fenwick, Carlisle
