"Visited Invercargill on the way to the Catlins and honestly it grew on me, in the way that lichen grows on a very cold rock. The water tower and the Victorian architecture in the town centre are genuinely lovely, and Bill Richardson's Transport World is a bizarrely brilliant way to spend an afternoon. But my word the wind comes off the Southern Ocean like it has a personal grudge against you, and by 6pm the whole place felt like it had gone to bed.
