Newport, Wales

Nearly Cardiff

"Wales' Best Supporting City"

Official Coat of Arms

A field azure bearing the Transporter Bridge rampant, flanked by two shopping trolleys proper, surmounted by a motorway junction and crowned with a perpetual rain cloud. The shield is supported by dexter a rugby ball and sinister a disappointed tourist clutching a map of Cardiff.

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Stayed in Newport for two nights while visiting Wales. The Transporter Bridge is genuinely impressive - like a giant Meccano set that actually works! The city center has that authentic 'urban regeneration in progress' vibe, with some lovely Victorian buildings mixed in with 1960s concrete. The locals were friendly and seemed genuinely surprised we were tourists."

Supporting Evidence

Newport's Transporter Bridge is one of only eight working transporter bridges left in the world, making it genuinely rarer than the Crown Jewels, though significantly less heavily guarded.
