Portlaoise, Ireland

Prison City Junction

"Where Every Motorway Leads, Eventually"

Official Coat of Arms

A shield bearing a watchtower rampant beside a stylised motorway junction sign, flanked by the ruined towers of the Rock of Dunamaise, with a banner beneath reading 'Semper Transiens' (Always Passing Through).

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Stopped here on the way to Cork and honestly it's mostly known for the big prison and the motorway services, which tells you something. The Dunamaise ruins are actually lovely and worth the ten minute detour, but the town centre itself feels like a place people pass through rather than to. Had a decent coffee though, so it's not all bad."
