Red Deer, Canada

Traffic Light Purgatory

"Halfway Between Calgary and Edmonton, Forever"

Official Coat of Arms

A shield bearing a highway overpass rampant, flanked by two oil derricks dormant, above a red deer looking mildly confused about why it's on a coat of arms for a city with a Costco but no NHL team. The motto beneath reads 'Nearly Calgary, Almost Edmonton.'

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Stopped here on the drive from Calgary to Edmonton because everyone said Red Deer was 'a good halfway point' and honestly that's exactly what it is, no more no less. Walked around downtown, saw some nice river valley trails at Waskasoo Park which genuinely surprised me, then got stuck at what felt like the same intersection three times. The casino was fine, the mall was a mall, and I'll probably stop here again in six months on my way back, which feels like a life sentence somehow."
