Bude: Where the Atlantic Comes to Ambush You
"Surf's up, the car park's flooded, and so is your holiday cottage"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield bearing the Bude Sea Pool half-submerged beneath a rogue wave, flanked by two crossed surfboards snapped clean in half. Above, a motto scroll reads 'Semper Ventus' beneath a wind-turbine weathervane spinning uncontrollably.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★★☆ 4/5
"We came for the surfing and left with sand in places I didn't know existed and a car that smelled of seaweed for a month. The sea pool is a genuinely brilliant idea but good luck getting in when the tide's decided otherwise. Charming high street, lovely pasties, but the wind will steal your windbreak, your dignity, and possibly your dog. Would return, mainly out of Stockholm syndrome."— Gareth_Windswept, Kettering
Property Listing
Charming coastal retreat offering breathtaking Atlantic views, bracing sea air (available year-round, whether you want it or not), and a genuinely world-class sea pool just a bracing clifftop walk away. Perfect for buyers who consider 'gale warning' a lifestyle choice.
Twinned With
Tornado Alley — Both places have weather that arrives with genuine intent to ruin your plans.
Supporting Evidence
Bude's Victorian sea pool was built so bathers could swim without being dragged out to sea by the notoriously vicious Atlantic currents, which remains excellent advice.
