Calgary, Canada
Stampede City Sprawl
"Where Oil Money Meets a Cowboy Hat Once a Year"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield depicting the Calgary Tower rising defiantly from a sea of suburban cul-de-sacs, flanked by two confused Chinook winds fighting for dominance, above a banner reading 'Boom, Bust, Repeat' in Stetson-embroidered lettering.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★★☆ 4/5
"Visited in July for the Stampede and it was a great time, but come back in January and the entire city is a windswept, minus-30 wasteland populated only by people running from their cars to the C-Train. The Bow River pathway system is genuinely lovely, and downtown has a weird mix of oil towers and cowboy statues that I found charming. Just know that 'chinook' doesn't mean warm breeze, it means the weather will change 40 degrees in an hour and confuse your entire wardrobe."— Gary_from_Manitoba_Visits
Property Listing
Stunning suburban bungalow just 45 minutes from downtown via three separate ring roads, boasting unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains on the seven days a year they're not obscured by haze or blowing snow! A commuter's dream, provided your commute is your entire personality.
Twinned With
Houston — Both cities built glass towers on oil money and pretend the boom-bust cycle is a personality trait rather than an economy.
Supporting Evidence
Calgary's downtown has an extensive network of elevated indoor walkways called the Plus 15, built specifically so residents never have to experience the outdoor temperature between October and April.
