"Came for the seaside nostalgia, stayed because the train back to London was delayed. The pier arcade is genuinely fun if you like the smell of chip fat and the sound of two-pence machines, and the beach huts are a lovely shade of hopeful pastel. Weather turned the promenade into a wind tunnel by 2pm and I saw a seagull steal an entire sausage roll from a toddler.
