Margate, England
Dreamland's Last Stand
"Where seaside nostalgia meets modern reality"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield divided between a golden Dreamland roller coaster rampant on a field of sand, and three Turner Prize-winning seagulls pecking at a dropped ice cream cone. The crest features a vintage B&B 'No Vacancies' sign crossed with a modern gallery catalogue, all beneath the motto 'Cultura et Candy Floss' (Culture and Candy Floss).
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Visited Margate expecting a quaint seaside town and got exactly that - if your idea of quaint includes a slightly rusty funfair, aggressive seagulls that could probably mug you, and enough charity shops to clothe a small nation. The Turner Contemporary gallery is genuinely brilliant though, which feels like finding a Michelin star restaurant next to a Little Chef. Fish and chips were decent, sand got everywhere."— BeachBumBrenda47 from Croydon

Margate's Shell Grotto, discovered in 1835, contains over 4.6 million shells arranged in mysterious patterns, and nobody knows who built it or why - making it possibly the UK's most elaborate example of Victorian procrastination.
