Ottawa: Government Town, Actually
"Where democracy happens and nightlife doesn't"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield bearing the Peace Tower rising above a frozen canal, flanked by two exhausted bureaucrats clutching Tim Hortons cups, with a banner beneath reading 'Quorum Achieved' in Latin nobody asked to translate.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Came for a conference at the convention centre, stayed for absolutely nothing because everything closes at 9pm. The Rideau Canal skating was genuinely lovely, I'll give them that, and the Byward Market has decent poutine. But my colleague from Toronto kept asking 'is this it?' every time we tried to find something to do after dinner, and honestly I didn't have a good answer for him."— Deborah K, visiting from Calgary for a federal grant meeting
Property Listing
Charming government town offering stable federal employment, a world-class skating commute, and proximity to more Tim Hortons per capita than you'd think possible! Ideal for buyers who dream of falling asleep to the gentle hum of Parliamentary debate on CPAC.
Twinned With
Canberra — Both are purpose-built capitals full of civil servants that their own countrymen constantly forget are the actual capital.
Supporting Evidence
The Rideau Canal Skateway is the world's largest naturally frozen ice rink, which is Ottawa's way of turning a brutal winter into a tourism strategy.
