Penarth, Wales
Posh Barry-on-Sea
"Where Cardiff's money goes to sleep"
Official Coat of Arms
A shield divided between a golden Victorian pier rampant and a silver Mercedes-Benz proper, surmounted by a crown of overpriced parking meters. The motto 'Fortiter et Expensively' flows beneath on a banner of estate agent particulars, flanked by two rampant labradors wearing Barbour jackets.
TripAdvisor Review
★★★☆☆ 3/5
"Lovely Victorian seafront with gorgeous pier, though the pebble beach means you'll need proper shoes unless you enjoy hobbling like a newborn giraffe. The town has that peculiar Welsh seaside charm where half the shops are either antique dealers or cafés selling £4 lattes to people who commute to Cardiff. Parking costs more than a decent lunch, but at least you can watch the trains to Barry Island and feel smugly superior."— PoshNan47 from Rhondda

Penarth Pier was built in 1894 and is one of the finest Victorian piers in Wales, though it's probably worth more than most of the houses that gaze longingly at it from the clifftop.
