Rename My Town

About Rename My Town

A free, AI-powered comedy tool for finding out what your town really should be called.

What this is

Rename My Town takes any town or city you give it and produces an honest rebrand: a new name, a tagline, a fictional TripAdvisor review, an estate agent's pitch, an heraldic coat of arms, a town it should be twinned with, and a fun fact. The whole thing is generated on demand by Claude — a large language model from Anthropic — and cached so the same URL always returns the same rebrand.

It is satire. None of the content is a factual statement about the real place.

Why it exists

Two reasons. First, because every town has a gap between how it markets itself and what it's actually like, and that gap is funny. Second, because the kind of locally-specific, gentle-roast comedy that lives in pub chats and group threads is exactly the kind of thing modern AI is unexpectedly good at — when you point it in the right direction.

Editorial principles

The AI is given hard rules before it writes anything:

If you find a rebrand that breaks any of these rules, that's a bug — not a feature — and we'd like to know. Get in touch and we'll take it down.

For a plain-English walkthrough of how a rebrand gets made, see the how it works page.

The vibe

Indie. Free. No ads. No newsletter. No analytics. No cookies beyond the one your browser uses to remember whether you prefer light or dark mode. If you enjoy it, share a rebrand with a friend who is from one of the towns — that's the whole business model.
