Frequently asked questions
The questions that come up most often, answered honestly.
Is this a real rebranding service?
No. This is a comedy site. Every "rebrand" is satirical AI-generated content, not a serious proposal. If your town council wants to rename itself, please do not cite us in the meeting minutes.
How does it work?
Short version: you type a town name, an AI writes a comedy rebrand for it, and we save the result so the next visitor sees the same one. The plain-English walkthrough lives on the how it works page.
Why doesn't it use [the obvious stereotype about my town/region]?
On purpose. The AI is given hard rules that ban ethnic, regional, and cultural stereotypes. The comedy is supposed to come from the gap between how a town markets itself and what it's actually like — its infrastructure, weather, traffic, retail, council decisions, and so on — not from clichés about the people who live there. See the about page for the editorial principles.
Can I delete a rebrand for my town?
Yes. Get in touch and we'll take it down. The same goes for anything that crosses a line we missed — flag it and it goes.
Does it work for any town?
Yes — anywhere with a name. Famous places get more specific jokes because the AI knows more about them. For smaller places, adding a country or region after the comma helps it find context.
Why are some rebrands funnier than others?
Two reasons. First, the AI has uneven knowledge: it knows a lot about Bristol, less about Llantrisant. Second, the comedy lives in the gap between marketing and reality, and some towns have bigger gaps than others.
Can I share a rebrand?
Yes — that's the whole point. Every rebrand has its own permanent web address at renamemy.com/town/<town>. When you share that link anywhere (chat apps, social media, group threads), it shows up with the right preview image, title, and description.
Who built this?
It's an indie side project, built and maintained by one person.
How is it funded?
It isn't. There are no ads, no affiliate links, no premium tier, and no newsletter. Running costs are kept low by reusing each rebrand for everyone who visits the same link.
How can I report something?
Get in touch. If you've found a rebrand that breaks the editorial rules (stereotypes, punching down, mean-spirited content), or anything else that crosses a line, that's the most useful kind of feedback we can get — please flag it and we'll take it down.
