Leeds, England

White Rose Retail Republic

"Where shopping centres outnumber parks"

Official Coat of Arms

A shield divided quarterly, bearing a golden Marks & Spencer carrier bag rampant, a silver tram that doesn't quite reach the airport, and the Trinity Centre rising triumphant over the ruins of independent bookshops. Supported by two concrete owls from the Civic Hall, with the motto 'Per Aspera Ad Asda'.

TripAdvisor Review

★★★☆☆ 3/5

"Visited Leeds expecting culture and got Trinity Centre. The Victorian arcades are lovely but you'll spend most of your time dodging charity fundraisers on Briggate. Tried to find the 'vibrant nightlife' but ended up queuing for 45 minutes to get into a Wetherspoons. At least the train to Manchester is frequent."

Supporting Evidence

Leeds has more shopping centres per square mile than any other UK city outside London, including the first pedestrianised shopping street in Britain, though locals still call it 'town' despite being England's third-largest city.
