"Flew all the way up to see the Great Barrier Reef and it was genuinely stunning, five stars for the reef itself. But Cairns town centre is basically a strip of tour operators, tacky souvenir shops and backpackers nursing hangovers from the Esplanade lagoon, since you literally cannot swim in the actual sea here for half the year because of jellyfish. Also it is unbelievably humid, like walking through soup, and every second building is a hostel advertising 'schoolies specials'. Still, the sunsets over the Marlin Marina are proper good and the reef trip made the whole exhausting trip worth it."— Deborah_from_Solihull_seeks_shade
